Many of our favourite retro
computers from the 1980s are now beginning to fail due to one major
component - the keyboard. Invariably one or
two keys will fail to respond as soon as you press them (or don't
respond at
all). Problems such as this are
normally caused by a fault in the keyboard membrane which contains a
switching
mechanism for each key. Normally, part of the conductive layer
wears away or cracks
and certain keys will no longer work. The Enterprise 64 and Enterprise 128 Home Computers are no different - it also suffers with ageing keyboard membranes. Replacement is a fairly simple procedure, and most people armed with a Phillips screwdriver can do this in a few minutes. However, the problem is that there are no longer any keyboard membranes available. Following some discussions on the Enterprise 128
Forever forums, and thanks to one of their members lending us a
keyboard, we are pleased to say that we have been able to obtain a short production
run of replacement keyboard membranes for the Enterprise 64/128 Home
Computer and these
are now available to purchase through SellMyRetro.com
- the trading site for retro computer enthusiasts. Cost is just £25 plus post and packing. |
